The Program has a trained employee to assist professors and students in the processes and submission flows and communication with the Research Ethics Commissions (CEP). The Postgraduate Course “Methodological Bases of Scientific Research” devotes part of the workload to the theme “Good Practices in Clinical Research”. Regarding the experimental research, the Program has the specific Discipline “MAN5741 – Good Anesthetic Practices in Experimental Research” where the subject is extensively discussed.

The Program submits the research projects to the evaluation of four institutional CEPs, according to the origin of the proposed project:

  • Research Ethics Committee of the Hospital das Clínicas of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of São Paulo (CAPPesq): the clinical research projects to be performed in the Institutes of the Hospital das Clínicas are currently submitted to this CEP, except the Cancer Institute. The CEP has its own digital platform for submission of projects and the committee meetings are biweekly. Until the creation of CEP-FMUSP and CEUA, this CEP was responsible for the evaluation of all institutional research projects.
  • Research Ethics Committee of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of São Paulo (CEP-FMUSP): created in 2011, clinical research projects to be carried out at the Faculty of Medicine, the Cancer Institute and external institutions University are submitted to this CEP using the institutional CEP. Students who will collect data in other institutions must have the research project approved in the CEP of the institution of origin and also in this CEP. The CEP has its own digital platform for submitting the projects and meets biweekly for deliberation on the preliminary analysis of the projects carried out by the members of the commission. From the creation of this CEP until 2013, the clinical projects and those of CEUA (described below) were evaluated by the same commission.
  • Ethics Committee for the Use of Animals of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of São Paulo (CEUA-FMUSP): with a regiment created in 2010, this Research Committee worked together with CEP-FMUSP until 2013, when it was officially dismembered by determination of the National Commission of Ethics in Research.
  • Research Ethics Commission of the University Hospital of the University of São Paulo (CEP-HU): research projects to be carried out at the University Hospital of the University of São Paulo are submitted to this CEP. When necessary, communication with CONEP and ANVISA is carried out through the CEPs corresponding to the Research Projects.

All Ethics Committees are composed of members who meet regularly and are linked to the relevant regulatory bodies. Until the creation of CEP-FMUSP in 2011 and CEUA in 2013, CAPPesq was responsible for the evaluation of all clinical and experimental animal investigation projects. Under the current legislation, experimental animal investigation projects are all submitted to the specific Ethics Committee (CEUA).

Students involved in Clinical Research Projects are advised to register the project on the ClinicalTrials.gov platform at the time of data collection.
